The journal Marxism & Sciences has announced a special issue on Dialectics and Life, calling for abstracts that explore the crucial relation between dialectical thinking and the complex entanglement of biological systems with their environments.
Following the legacy of Levins and Lewontin’s The Dialectical Biologist, the issue seeks to reopen a dialogue between dialectical thinking and evolutionary perspectives focused on constructive development and reciprocal causation. The editors also invite contributions that connect dialectics with recent critical approaches in 4E cognition, analyses of socio‑ecological systems grounded in the concept of “social metabolism”, and dynamical systems frameworks capable of capturing multi‑level feedback processes across scales. The call is particularly relevant for researchers working on:
- organism–environment coupling
- the Extended Evolutionary Synthesis
- enactivism and 4E cognition
- metabolic rift, ecological crisis, and socio‑ecological systems
- dynamical systems approaches to life across scales
